Nashua Author Chrissy Carew to Speak on How NFL Players Can Be Positive Role Models at Book Signing Event at Barnes & Noble in Nashua, Saturday, September 14

Nashua, NH – The tragic case of Aaron Hernandez is yet another example of a sports star that has gotten into serious trouble for transgressions that occurred off the field. What is sad is that this will not be the last time an athlete falls from grace. During negative news cycles like the Hernandez nightmare and the steroid issue in baseball, we often overlook the impact these stories have on our children. What do parents in New England now tell their children about the tight end they cheered for and whose jersey they wore?

Chrissy Carew, Nashua resident and author of INSIGHTFUL PLAYER: Football Pros Lead A Bold Movement of Hope, published by Morgan James, will discuss how NFL players can be positive role models for our youth when she appears at a book signing event at Barnes and Noble Booksellers at 235 Daniel Webster Highway on Saturday afternoon, September 14 at from 2 p.m. – 3:30 p.m. The book features the inspirational stories of 32 past and current NFL players, each of whom overcame life obstacles to attain a career in the NFL.

A Master Certified Hall-of-Fame Personal and Business Coach, Carew has provided coaching services to a number of NFL players. In 2010 she created Insightful Player®, a bold movement of hope that features inspiring stories and programs about great NFL role models to inspire youth. An Insightful Player® is a person of integrity, such as a current or former NFL player, who shares their personal message of hopefor the sole purpose of lifting the spirits of all, especially children.

Some of the Insightful Player team members include: Devin McCourty (Patriots) and Jason McCourty (Titans), Kyle Arrington (Patriots) Jerricho Cotchery (Steelers), Montell Owens (Lions), Steve Grogan (Patriots), Steve Nelson (Patriots) Andre Tippett (Patriots) Roger Staubach (Cowboys), and Antonio Garay (Jets), among others.

“The stories profiled in my book and online are not something mainstream media often covers. Players starting Foundations, overcoming addiction or gang cultures and making it through tragic circumstances in their lives, will not often make the paper or nightly newscast. However, my mission is simple. Reach kids so we have the right message to give them and let them see first-hand the importance of building character.” notes Carew. “My belief is if we shower our kids with positive stories and programs and provide them with professional life coaching early on, they will have a much greater chance of leading a great life.”

Player stories in the book include: One player’s father was murdered when he was eight; he had to duck for cover in his own home when bullets were flying on his street. Another player, as early as five years old, saw people shot. A Hall of Fame player never had a winter coat or boots, and didn’t always have food to eat. Some of these players had to take heroic steps to overcome life’s obstacles. The players overcame these hardships to achieve a place in the NFL. These players are much more than athletes. They are remarkable human beings and magnificent role models.

Chrissy, who grew up in Concord,Massachusetts, was deeply inspired by her father, the late Coach Walter Carew, Sr. He is in several Halls of Fame as a high school football coach and baseball coach (as well as high school and college athlete). He used sports to help kids build strong character and learn valuable life skills. The Insightful Player® initiative was created to help make our world a much better place by inspiring youth.
